Nevermind
Nirvana's album Nevermind turns 25 today. A bit shocking, but time is moving fast. There have been many bands and albums that have had a big influence on me over the years. Led Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy, Weezer's Pinkerton and Pennywise's Full Circle. They influenced me musically, and I became motivated to learn guitar and write songs. Some even influenced my life, how I think about the world, what I think is cool.
But Nevermind is the special album. I remember hearing it for the first time in a friend named Blake Regan's basement when I was 12 years old in 1995. Sadly I was a bit too young to truly experience the grunge explosion and go to shows. But hearing that album at 12 years old blew my mind. It was and still is perfect in every way, and I'm so thankful that although I was too young to experience the grunge explosion, I was old enough to catch the tail end of it. After 21 years of listening to music since then, I still hold that band and that album up as the coolest thing I've ever heard.
