In The Ends

"We only want to be free. And as funny as it sounds it's all we want. To not have our egos bound with the rays of suns. Because man should be free as falling rain. To find what he loves even if it's pain" - The Growlers

Myspace

A girl from college emailed me a link to her myspace page last week so I took the time to check out her page. Before long I found myself clicking on links to her friends' pages, bouncing from person to person, all people from college I haven't seen or talked to since senior year. I stumbled upon the page of a girl I got to know fairly well in college that I always thought was cool. Her bio on her page is below.

"I moved downtown last Christmas and I'm having such a great time with my friends and roommates! When we're not at the bars I like to go to Cubs games, cook, play volleyball and softball, shop, ....the list goes on. If I'm not around it's probably because I'm in Des Moines, IA visiting my wonderful boyfriend. I love college football, the Cubs and Bears, the color pink, flippy cup and beer pong, my amazing friends, vodka tonics, The Fray, writing, 80's music, and laughing."

While there was once a time in my life when this type of girl seemed the norm, I now found myself laughing out loud as I read her bio. If I ever knew this type of girl, I certainly don't know her now.

I then began typing in names of people from my past. I found the page of my first girlfriend. It appears as though things have gone south for her since our 7th grade romance. She looks to be +200 lbs and has a huge tattoo on her left breast.

The Hardest I Have Laughed Since Borat

There was a fucking tailgate outside of Best Buy tonight. I had heard about this shit. People camp outside of Best Buys to wait for the latest video game system to go on sale; this time it's PS3. I didn't doubt that people actually did this, but I didn't realize that this shit is no joke until I walked past Best Buy tonight. This party was better than any Iowa football tailgate. I'm talking white people, black people, Mexicans, Asians, Arabs, every race, color, and creed were camped outside this Best Buy. They were grilling and playing guitar, with lawn chairs to sit in and board games spread out across the side walk. They had sleeping bags and pillows and food it seemed that could last for weeks. The press was there doing interviews; people even dressed up in costumes, one dude was dressed up as a PS3. The crazy thing is that out of the 1000 people that were there I didn't see one frown on one face. These people could not have been happier. PS3 brings people together apparently.

Hating OJ Simpson is another thing that brings people together. Fox announced yesterday that it will air a two part interview with OJ titled "If I did it, here's how it happened". This is Fox degressing to the times when they put complete trash on TV (When Animals Attack, Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire, etc). Being in charge of the viewer comment line for Fox, I had the priviledge of listening to voice messages from outraged viewers calling in and complaining about OJ. People from every corner of this country called to express their extreme displeasure that the interviews will be airing. Over 800 people called today, every type of person you could imagine, but they had one thing in common, they all hated OJ and didn't want any network to give him airtime.

This is the stuff that brings Americans together.

Grandparents

My grandparents sent me a birthday card today. My grandpa wrote a note for me on the left side of the card. This is what it said:

Dear Marc,

You are at it. N.Y. could get you! You are doing the job!

Grandpa Jack

There are several things to note about this message from my grandpa. First of all, I have no clue what this means. Does my grandpa think I live in New York? What job am I doing? Am I doing a good job at the job? And what exactly am I at?

I think the best explanation for this message is mainly that my grandpa is getting older and is having a tough time keeping tabs on what I'm doing. That's completely understandable, I'm having a tough time keeping tabs on what I'm doing. It is also clear to me that my grandma was the driving force behind this letter because she wrote a nice long note on the right side. I'm sure she asked my grandpa to at least write a little something, even if it was brief......and eludes to the fact that I live in New York.

It means a lot to me that my grandparents send a card for my birthday. My grandparents had 10 kids and have 32 grandchildren. That's 42 birthdays a year to keep track of. They do an unbelieveable job, they've never missed my birthday. They are truly amazing people.

So no matter what kind of card they send, no matter what their message says, it always means a lot coming from them.
